At least 21 killed, four seriously injured in crash between two minibuses, car in South Africa

At least 21 people were killed, and four people were seriously injured in a massive traffic accident between two minibus taxis and a car on the N1 Highway in South Africa’s Western Cape on Monday, the South African Road Traffic Management (RTMC) announced in a post on X/Twitter.

The two minibuses reportedly had a head-on collision, authorities say, with an SUV hitting them shortly after the initial crash.

Three of the victims were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival, local police said.

RTMC added that the N1 is closed in both directions and urged drivers to avoid the area, expect significant delays, and follow instructions given by authorities operating at the scene.

The RTMC added that the death toll “may change as emergency services and authorities in the Western Cape continue their assessment of the scene.”
